Penalty Miss Costs Boro All 3 Points

Martyn Fuller’s men almost got off to a dream start, as they out-battled Stalham Town in the season opener at Rivers Park.

Having narrowly escaped some early pressure, Attleborough Town took the lead part way through the first half, thanks to a Jak Fuller free-kick which whipped past the defensive wall and into the far corner of the net.

Still on top at the break, the Boro players knew that the game was poised on a knife’s edge. Delighted with his side’s ability to create chances, the Boro manager knew all too well how costly it could prove when Brad Rivett evaded the Stalham backline, only to fire his shot wildly over the crossbar.

He wasn’t alone however, as Boro failed to take two more good chances shortly before the hosts bundled in a goal against the run of play. 1-1.

With substitutions made and 15 to play, it was one-way traffic for Boro, who applied pressure well in the Stalham half. Just minutes from time, forward Danny Camish got the better of his man and was brought to the ground inside the box.

Fancying his chances against his former side, Camish stepped up to the spot himself, only to be denied by the frame of the goal.

Pressure on the Stalham goal was sustained, with young winger Josh Dunstan impacting, but seeing cross after cross blocked or parried. The final whistle came and the scores remained level.
